Building Energy Management Systems

As a nation we are becoming more educated on the global impact of our carbon emissions, and we are becoming more aware of our own roles in which we can play to minimise the overall impact of climate change.

We truly believe that the installation of even the simplest of Building Management systems can go a long way to reducing carbon emissions in the HVAC industry and ultimately reduce running costs for the client / end user.

Building management systems are computer-based systems used to monitor and control HVAC building services, although they can also be used to monitor and control power distribution, energy consumption and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS). When you start to incorporate these types of devices, you will often refer to this type of system as a Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS).

Effectiveness

The overall effectiveness of a BEMS will depend on the range and quality of the information it receives from field sensors installed around the building, and the programming of how this information is used. For example, information about external and internal conditions can be used to determine the level of heating required so that plant can be activated and a building pre-heated before occupants arrive, as well as lighting circuits being on timed programmes, so no lights can be left off overnight due to a faulty PIR or user error.

BEMS will ultimately assist building managers to understand overtime how their buildings are operating and allow them to control and adjust systems to optimise their performance.

Smart BEMS

No matter how complex the building services are a well-designed BEMS will collate data and allow ease of control for the end user. Depending on the clients budget a BEMS can be designed to visualise data, automatically generate reports and create alarms and alerts when parameters are exceeded, failures occur, or with prognostic systems, when failures are likely to occur, and all of this information can be sent to a mobile smart devices.

Intelligent building management systems bring together information and controls relating to a number of different M&E systems operating simultaneously by using a range of different software applications. This means that all your Mechanical and Electrical services listed below can be controlled by from one single interface: -

  • Heating
  • Ventilation
  • Gas interlock systems
  • Air Conditioning
  • Lighting
  • Fire, smoke detection and alarms.
  • Motion detectors, CCTV, security and access control.

Having one single interface located in one single location or on a cloud-based system, makes monitoring and analysis your buildings performance more flexible and straightforward than ever.

Efficiency

Historically, BEMS has normally been associated with large commercial buildings, however as equipment has become easier to control, monitoring and detection has become less expensive, and now wireless technology has become available, even residential dwellings are seeing an increase in Building Energy Management Systems installed. These type of systems are allowing home owners to connect to their home and remotely switch on devices such as lights and heating to suit their daily schedule.

The technologies are out there, it’s just knowing who to ask and how to implement them within your build, and that’s where Fisher BSE can assist.

"I can’t recommend Fisher BSE highly enough. Dean’s expertise and dedication go far above and beyond what should be reasonably expected.

Ours was a beast of a project and they were superb from start to finish.

It's a 10,000 sq. ft bowling alley with a £350,000 mechanical setup based in London and Fisher delivered the project on time and were on site whenever we needed them.

Your project will be in the safest of hands. I shall certainly be using them for any and all future projects."
